I had a full tummy tuck with liposuction of the flanks on Aug. 19th, 2009. A tummy tuck was something I had always wanted to have done since the birth of my 2 children delivery by cesearean sections. I am now 50 yrs old and well overdue to rid myself of the awful stretch marks and sagging skin that haunted me every time I undressed.
After months of looking and reading other people’s experiences on the Internet, I finally made my appointment with Dr. Bowers. In my consultation with him, Dr. Bowers was very straight forward, informative and patiently answered all questions I had. On the day of the surgery, I had made it my goal and was convinced that all would proceed as planned. I am 50 yrs old, no health issues and I considered myself to be pretty healthy. Well, my tenacity paid off, and with Dr. Bower a perfectionist in his work and knowledgeable in this procedure, assisted me in being in surgery from early morning and being in the recovery room by late that afternoon. I was able to be homeward bound that very same day!
Dr. Bowers did agree that my trip home, he would be more comfortable, if even with having no problems in the surgery and being able to go through the bodily functions before I left the hospital, that I be equipped with an OnQ Pain Pump System, I quickly agreed! To whoever invented the OnQ pouch, I applaude you!!! The pain pump is abolutely amazing and well worth every penny spent.
I was able to go home, with the pain pumps and of curse, drainage tubes in place. Although it took some used to getting around with so many things attached to your body, I was able to easily manage. My first night home, amazingly I was able to rest exceptionally well, and the 2nd day, the pain pump really kicked in and I felt then that I could have cleaned, cooked a meal and done laundry. I felt discomfort, but absolutely no pain. After about 5 days, the pain pump was taken out. The drain tubes I was able to have my boyfriend take out, by assistance over the phone by my doctor, it was that easy. I literally wore out my “That was Easy” button. Nonetheless, my patient and understanding boyfriend found the drainage tubes user friendly to remove and I, his victim virtually found no discomfort or pain as the drainage tubes were being evicted from my tummy.

Tummy Tuck
In researching my dates of contact with the office it has been 10 years…a decade of superb service and procedures that changed my life!!
In Nov. of 1999 as I entered my fifth decade of life ….my children were grown … my marriage was declining and I looked much more aged than I felt.I had begun a serious weight loss program and physical workout routine but this was not enough, maybe plastic surgery could help. Being a physician I rigorously checked the credentials of various plastic surgeons in town and by far DRs. Holderness and Bowers were the pinnacle of the pack!
My initial consult with Dr. Holderness was professional, caring and reassuring as we discussed a blepharoplasty (a bilateral procedure on the eyes to reduce the sagging tired look). The procedure was not a problem as every aspect was explained from preop to postop, including swelling bruising and how to manage same. The results were well worth it! With one procedure I looked (and felt) 10 years younger. I followed this with a Rhytidectomy (face lift) in April of 2000 and a breast lift in 2001. I was a new woman!
During this time Dr. Holderness and his staff encouraged me to contnue the weight loss program that I had begun, and his skin care consultants helped me maintain my new look.
Then in 2005 I needed a hysterectomy, and I consulted Dr Holderness again! This time I wanted to have an abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) done at the same time as the hysterectomy and under the same anesthesia after Dr. Dickstein did her part. Again not a problem… Dr. Holderness’s office coordinated everything with the other physician and Women’s Hospital.
In 2007 Drs. Holderness and Bowers worked together to perform a reverse abdominoplasty to remove and tighten skin from my waist up to under my breasts, since I had lost more weight. I have also had several minor procedures, a Blue peel, and several Juvaderm injections.
This brief overview does not even begin to list all of their terrific staff of nurses and front office personnel who are your extended support group and genuinely interested in your care.
To be succinct…I can without reservation recommend North Carolina Plastic Surgery and their staff to anyone to needs the services of a plastic surgeon!!!
Sincerely, Dr. Susan
