Application

Basic Techniques
Minerals are simple to apply if this lesson is learned quickly – less is more! It’s easy to overdo when you’re first working with mineral powders because they are concentrated pigment.

There are three different bases in the jane iredale line: Amazing Base®, PurePressed® Base and Liquid Minerals™. Choosing a base is a matter of your personal preference. The loose mineral powder, Amazing Base®, gives a dewy, soft look to the skin that minimizes fine lines. PurePressed® Base is slightly more matte and minimizes pores. Liquid Minerals™ provides the benefits of a treatment serum combined with the coverage of liquid makeup. Different application techniques apply with each one.

To choose the correct base shade, test a little on your jawline in natural light. Foundation that is too dark will exaggerate fine lines and accentuate pores. On dark skin, choose a powder one shade lighter than the skin tone. This will minimize any ashy tendency. Because of the way minerals interact with light, they are more forgiving than conventional makeup. You’ll find you can wear a variety of shades depending on the look you want to achieve. You will never see where the minerals end and you begin.

The perfect application begins with a clean, well moisturized face. Be sure to allow the moisturizer to absorb into the skin, and pat off any excess before applying the minerals.

Application Problems
Too Much Shine – It’s easy to avoid this by using the right brush and applying our minerals in thin layers ending in downward strokes. Keep adding layers until the desired coverage has been reached.

Accentuates Pores or Fine Lines – Apply a thin layer of our Absence® skin primer and then a layer of our pressed or loose minerals. If this doesn’t solve the problem, use Liquid Minerals™ instead of the powders.

Uneven and Blotchy – This is usually because the minerals have been applied before the moisturizer has absorbed or because the moisturizer is too occlusive. Always wait for the moisturizer to absorb, and blot any excess.
